Deliver the messages you asked for — gauge readings, flow alerts, and the newsletter — and debug the service when it misbehaves. That's the whole list.
We do not sell personal information. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All categories above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; that information will not be shared with any third parties.
Messages are delivered through infrastructure providers (satellite, email, and SMS carriers) solely to transmit the messages described here. The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which also provides the cookieless page counts described above. Gauge data comes from public sources (USGS, Water Survey of Canada, CDEC, and others) and involves none of your information.
Using LateBoof — the website, the satellite and email bot, SMS, the Oracle forecasts, and the newsletter — means you accept these terms.
LateBoof relays gauge readings from public sources and publishes forecasts that are, by definition, guesses about the future. None of it is a statement that a river is safe to run. Whitewater kayaking can kill you. Flows change faster than any gauge reports them; gauges fail, lag, and lie; forecasts miss. You — not LateBoof — are responsible for every decision you make on or near the water. Verify conditions with your own eyes and judgment before you commit to anything. If a LateBoof number and the river disagree, the river is right.
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," with no warranties of any kind — express or implied, including accuracy, timeliness, availability, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We run canaries and self-checks because we care, but we promise nothing: readings may be wrong or stale, messages may be delayed or lost, runnable ranges are editorial judgment, and the service may change or shut down at any time without notice.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LateBoof and its operator are not liable for any damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service — including injury, death, property loss, or wasted travel — whether based on contract, tort, or anything else. LateBoof is free; you agree that its total liability to you is zero dollars. If your jurisdiction doesn't allow some of these limits, they apply to the fullest extent it does allow.
By using flow information from LateBoof to plan or run rivers, you knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks of whitewater paddling and backcountry travel, and you release LateBoof and its operator from any claim connected to that information.
Don't abuse the bot (automated scraping of the reply channel, flooding, or resale of the service), don't misrepresent LateBoof data as your own, and don't rely on it as your only source for safety-critical decisions. We may block abusive senders.
LateBoof is independent and not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the USGS, Water Survey of Canada, CDEC, NOAA, Dreamflows, Garmin, or any other data source or carrier named on this site. Gauge data remains the product of its respective agency.
We may update these terms and this policy; the "last updated" date at the top moves when we do. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions: owen@lateboof.com.
